Infant Massage Classes

Balance Healing Center is bringing newborn, infant and toddler massage education into the home. One-on-one, in home massage classes help parents to develop a massage routine unique to their child, in the comfort of their own home, and on their own schedule. Whether you are looking for help applying massage techniques learned in pre-natal classes, would like to develop a bedtime routine for your toddler or would just like to learn massage basics, we have a program for you. Massage classes also make a unique shower gift!

Balance classes include child-safe massage oil and an infant massage book that discusses massage benefits, techniques and more.

Tiffany M. Field, PhD, has been studying the effects of massage at the University of Miami School of Medicine, including healthy infants, pre-term infants, and HIV, alcohol or drug exposed infants. Many studies have found infant massage to reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels while increasing serotonin levels and improving emotional and social temperaments. Additionally, treated infants performed better on the Brazelton Neonatal Behavior Assessment Scales, including orientation and motor. At one year, they were still showing a weight advantage and performed better on the Bayley Scales of Infant Development by 12 points on the mental scale (101vs. 89) and 15 points on the motor scale (105 vs. 90).
